Interview With Greer (Gigi) Bronson
Los Angeles, CA
Sitting in the lobby of my residence hall preparing for the interview, I couldn’t help but think of the first time I met Gigi. We were first introduced by Rachel in her Los Angeles home this past summer. I felt like an intruder sitting on her bed as we chatted and made small talk. Five minutes later I was comfortable enough to take her laptop and turn on some music while she was in the bathroom getting ready for the party that night.
Here we were lounging again as if we were back in her room. “So my first question,” I begin, “Is how long have you been living in California?” Smiling enthusiastically she answered, “I have been living in California for seventeen years. I studied abroad in France my junior year (of high school).” Even though I already knew this piece of information about her it still amazes me. “Wow,” I say. “Have you enjoyed growing up in California?” “Yes because it’s a lot of space for a child.” She chuckles as I raise an eyebrow. “In New York or somewhere like that, a child can’t really run around. In California there’s a lot of room, it’s always sunny, the parks and greenery are plentiful, and there’s so many things to do.” “I agree,” I say as I envision my childhood days throwing bread at the ducks in the park or running along the ocean. “What do you think makes California so special aside from being a great place for children?” “Well, there’s a lot of freedom and options. For example, if you can drive you can take yourself just about anywhere and you can do just about anything at any time. It is never boring.” I smile and reply, “I feel ya. So then how would you describe the vibe of California?” “It’s much more relaxed than a lot of other cities, such as those on the East Coast. We just take things day by day and I feel like in places such as New York everyone is always in hurry.” “Would you say that being relaxed is beneficial or hindering?” “It’s good for certain kinds of people. If you already have a job it’s nice but if you are unemployed it fosters little motivation to do anything.” I think about what Gigi has just said and unenthusiastically have to agree. “Switching subjects now.” |
